The Pennsylvania Humanities Council designated the year 1985 as "The Year of the Pennsylvania Writer." The PHC funded projects in eight locations throughout the Commonwealth to gain appreciation, understanding, and recognition for past and present Pennsylvania writers. The State College/University Park location held a two-stage conference and related events by five Centre County regional organizations. Clifford R. Adams became assistant professor of education and psychology at Pennsylvania State College in 1941, becoming full professor in 1949. Adams founded the first university marriage clinic and conducted research involving marriage for more than thirty years. He retired with emeritus status in 1964. From the description of Clifford R.
